His Shadow

His Shadow followed him
Doggedly
Everywhere
Outside
Inside
It was always around
Constant companion
But he hardly saw his shadow
Though others did
At night when he turned off the lights
The shadow slipped away
And wandered
But it never left him
The unseen bond
That tethered the shadow to him
Brought flickering dreams
Of its wanderings
To his sleep
When the lights die
When the lights die
When the lights die
In his eyes
Then may be the shadow
Will be free
Is the shadow cursed to be
With him?
